Cincinnati is beautifully situated in the Ohio River valley with beautiful hills rising up on all sides. For several hundred years, one of Cincinnati’s nickname is “The City of Seven Hills”. However, it is safe to say that that nickname is not a topographically accurate description of the Queen City – as there are many more hills. Never the less, our picturesque city has been lovingly described as follows: In 1881, Mr. & Mrs. Henry A. Ford wrote the “History of Cincinnati, Ohio”. The Ford’s stated “These hills, with the popular resorts and places of amusement thereon, constitute the chief attraction of the city, and are world renowned in their fame.” An article on Cincinnati in the “American Cyclopedia”, says the hills form “one of the most beautiful natural amphitheaters on the continent, from whose hilltops may be seen the splendid panorama of the cities below and the winding Ohio.”
Through the years, there have been many references of Seven Hills, with no official adoption of an official version. Today, the seven hills most frequently referenced are: Mt. Adams, Mt. Airy, Mt. Echo, Mt. Healthy, Mt. Lookout, Mt. Storm & Mt. Washington. Each hill has its own unique placement and communities. One certain fact is that residents of Cincinnati love their city and all its picturesque hills!
